Asia is incredibly varied – in culture, in weather, in wildlife …I could go on. But the five listed below are places I think everybody should see at least once – each as unforgettable as the next.
Tiger’s Nest Temple, Bhutan
This monastery, also known as Paro Taktsang, is almost 3,000 feet directly above the Paro Valley. It’s a must-see destination, not only for its own beauty but its unique view and location. Its impressive history is nothing short of fascinating.
Bokeo Nature Reserve, Laos
Situated in the Laso (Bokeo province), this reserve was made ‘to guard the gibbons’. To experience the forest beauty or see the gibbons, I would recommend The Gibbon Experience. While you’re there, you should also try the Waterfall Gibbon Experience, which involves three hours of trekking around the Nam Nga River and (as the name suggests) some incredible waterfalls.
Siem Reap, Cambodia
Angkor Wat temple is among the well-known sites to go to in the area – and it doesn’t disappoint. There are also museums, temples, the Cultural Village and the Old Market. The best thing about all of these is that despite being a real tourism hub, the town never feels congested or overwhelming, and the locals are very welcoming.
Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, there are more than 3,000 islands and almost 1,600 residents in the floating villages of Ha Long Bay. Take a cruise and see life from the water. Here, nature’s beauty will leave you open-mouthed in wonder – I can’t do justice to how beautiful it really is.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
The architecture here is incredibly diverse – modern and cultural. Touristic sites include Central Market, the Buta Caves, the Petronas Twin Towers, and China Town. The old rubs shoulders with the new and somehow it all works perfectly.
Rainbow Family Village, Taiwan
Huang Yung-Fu was the name of the man who painted this village – referred to locally as Grandpa Rainbow. He is a resident of this military dependents’ village, who one day decided to brighten it up! A spectacle for the eyes that really warms the heart.
If all this talk of Asian mystique has you yearning to get away, just give me a call, I’m always happy to discuss your next trip.
