Day 1 - Departs Southampton

Days 2-5 - At sea

Day 6 - St John's, Newfoundland, Canada
En route from New England to Canada, this charming and historic port, St John's is the capital of Newfoundland and the oldest city in Canada. Dating back to the 16th century, its long heritage is reflected in some well-preserved historic buildings. As it is right by the easternmost point (Cape Spear) of North America, it has always been a busy port with many ships and travellers passing through. There is a real pioneer spirit about the place. In the winter, temperatures can fall to 40F below - hard to believe as you bask in the warmth of the summer or autumn sun. The surrounding country is exceptionally scenic and you can enjoy some spectacular walks, particularly around Cape Spear and nearby Petty Harbour.

Day 7 - At sea

Day 8 - Gaspe, Canada
Gaspé is a city with an intoxicating mix of regional cultures, sitting at the tip of the GaspéPeninsula in the immense region of eastern Quebec. It's surrounded by dramatic rock faces, pounding surf and jagged coasts dotted with lighthouses. It's also home to an abundance of flora and fauna. The Gaspé Peninsula, situated along the coast of the majestic St Lawrence River, is the birthplace of Canada, where Jacques Cartier first claimed the land for France. It contains four national parks, including Bonaventure Island, and the massive Perc Rock (one of the world's largest natural arches sitting in water), as well as over 200,000 northern gannets. In town you can explore Gaspé maritime heritage and legendary hospitality. The modern Gaspé cathedral is built almost entirely of wood, with beautiful stained glass. The Muse de la Gaspsie tells of Jacques Cartier's voyages, and the Anglo-French struggle for power over this region.

Day 9 - Sept-iles, Canada
Sept-Iles offers a unique cultural experience with the intermingling of two nations - the Innu community and the European population. Located at the mouth of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence River, Sept-Iles (Seven Islands) is the northernmost town in Quebec with any significant population. The city borders a stunning circular bay protected by a natural barrier formed by seven islands, thus its name. This magnificent territory is the most populous Aboriginal nation in Quebec, and two of the islands are First Nations reserves. The islands are mostly uninhabited and full of wildlife, especially seabirds, which tend to dominate the islands. The Museum of the North Shore Region tells the story of the area's 8,000 years of human habitation and boasts over 40,000 objects. Stroll along the boardwalk that lines the magnificent bay and enjoy craft displays by local artisans. Re-live the first local encounter at a recreated Innu camp and experience life in a 19th-century trading post replica.

Day 10 - At sea

Days 11-12 Quebec
Always a highlight of a 'Fall Foliage' cruise along the New England and Canadian coastline, Quebec City is a living testimonial to the grace of Old Europe. Its steep cobbled streets make an atmospheric counterpoint to the trees blazing crimson, yellow and gold and creating one of the most dazzling spectacles on earth. Artists display their wares in its tree-lined squares and Europhiles can shop for fine antiques and savour fine coffee, croissants and La Vie Francais in Parisian-style pavement cafes. Do not miss the magnificent view from the turrets of medieval-style Chateau Frontenac, which dominates the city. Despite its appearance, this hotel-cum-museum dates from the 19th century, when it was constructed by the Canadian and Pacific Railway Company. A visit here for afternoon tea-with-a-view will make a perfect end to a day ashore.

Day 13 - Saguenay
Extravagant valleys and granite cliffs tower above Saguenay's glittering waterways in the Land of Giants. These colossal canyons stretch 100km along the Saguenay River, with three national parks vying for your attention, sometimes overshadowed by the spectacular sight of whales surfacing the shallower waters near the mouth of St Lawrence River. So how will the city compete after such a journey? Well, you'll find friendly hosts with a love for gastronomy in the laid-back cafes, bars and swanky rooftop terraces. Explore the bustling museums, boutiques, and art galleries, not forgetting to sample some indulgent home-baked blueberry pie. Further on at picturesque Lac-Saint-Jean, biking is the best way to get around, but you can also fish, kayak, swim or try one of the many watersports on offer. Or you could simply take some time to relax on the golden sand to admire the majestic lake in all its splendour.

Day 14 - At sea

Day 15 - Charlottetown
Travel back through time to Canada's birthplace, Charlottetown. This cruise destination is bursting with colour and culture whatever the season. This pretty port is capital of Prince Edward Island, inspiration for the Anne of Green Gables novels and Canada's smallest and greenest province. Embark on one of our cruises to Charlottetown and you can savour some of the cleanest air in the country. Exploring its main historic hotspots is a delight and, whether you go on foot or hop aboard a boat or bus, a guided tour will help you make the most of your visit. Learn more about the city's role in the creation of the Confederation through the interactive displays at Founders' Hall, shop for souvenirs or simply enjoy sitting on the scenic waterfront - with our Charlottetown cruises the choice is yours.

Day 16 - Iles de la Madeleine, Canada
Although the Iles de la Madeleine (Magdalen Island) archipelago is floating in the middle of the massive Gulf of St Lawrence, it belongs to the province of Quebec. It offers an intoxicating mix of rich, island culture and vast natural spaces. This green archipelago has beautiful marine landscapes and an incredible coastline. It's filled with red cliffs, coastal lagoons and miles of windswept beaches. And it's home to hundreds of bird species. The Îles de la Madeleine offer a fascinating blend of Acadian, French and English cultures, formed in isolation over two centuries. The pace of life is slower and flows along. But the traditions are strong and apparent in the art galleries, museums and historic churches. Brightly painted commercial fishing boats lining the docks are testament to their typical regional cuisine, which features the flavours of the sea. You won't find any fresher snow crab, lobster, northern shrimp or shellfish anywhere.

Day 17 - At sea

Day 18 - Halifax
Halifax is the principal city of Nova Scotia and one of the most dramatically indented coastlines in the world. It is also one of the closest Canadian ports to Europe, hence its early prominence in transatlantic trade (Samuel Cunard was born here). For lovers of maritime history, a call at the cruise port Halifax will be one of the most memorable of a cruise around the USA's Eastern Seaboard and the Canadian Maritimes. When the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank in April 1912, the rescue and recovery operation was co-ordinated from Halifax, which became the last resting place for many of its victims. The city's fascinating Maritime Museum - set right on its waterfront - holds remnants of the ship, including a steamer chair. Equally interesting are the two- to three-hour 'Historic Halifax Downtown Walks', which leave from the International Visitor Centre on Sackville Street and show visitors the city's highlights, including the 19th century mansion of George Wright, one of the 33 millionaires who joined Titanic's maiden voyage.

Day 19 - Sydney, Nova Scotia
Located on Cape Breton Island's east coast, stunning scenery abounds and tours are readily available to soak up the very best of Mother Nature's masterpieces. The city was founded by the British Crown in 1785 and you can still find several buildings and landmarks dating back to this time. The Cape Breton Centre for Heritage and Science offers an insight into the history of Sydney; from its early settlement, through the booming steel heydays to today, where the city attracts countless visitors to its breathtakingly scenic shoreline. The Cossit House and Jost House museums are also an excellent window on a world gone by. Faithfully restored and featuring knowledgeable guides in period costumes, you step back in time when you step through the front door. The success of Sydney is celebrated along the Oceanfront Esplanade with numerous statues and plaques, and for souvenirs, head to the vibrant Sydney River shopping district.
